Search Lombard homes and you’ll discover a beautiful village, with deep historic roots and a vision for the future. Lombard is only about 20 miles west of Chicago, making it a good suburban location to take advantage of jobs, educational opportunities, and the many world-class museums, theaters and events. Lombard has plenty to offer in its own right, too. The local chamber of commerce is active in promoting and encouraging Lombard businesses. Schools in the village are some of the best in the state, turning in top tier performances on state testing. Several well-respected private and parochial schools give parents more choices for their kids.
Lombard real estate is steeped in history. The Lombard Historical Society preserves several early buildings in the town, as well as artifacts and photographs that tell the story of life in the village. The Sheldon Peck homestead was even a station on the Underground Railroad, as the Pecks were radical abolitionists. Another part of Lombard’s history are the lilacs planted by Col. William Plum and his wife, Helen Maria Williams Plum. The garden became such a part of Lombard’s identity, that Col. Plum left his home and gardens to the village as a public library and garden. Today, that heritage is celebrated in May, with the 16-day Lilac Time festival.
The village’s many parks provides places to play, exercise, and take classes for everyone living in Lombard homes. Kids enjoy day camp in the summer and sports all year long. A pre-kindergarten program sets young children on the right path to a solid elementary education. Adults aren’t left out of athletic programs, either. Martial arts are taught to all ages. Residents can also participate in arts classes, with both fine art and performance options. Everyone comes together for seasonal events, including July 4th fireworks, Halloween fun, and winter celebrations.
Yorktown Center is the local mall, and it has a great variety of national chains, along with smaller shops, restaurants, and movie theaters.
